Graceling meets Beauty and the Beast in this sweeping fantasy about one girl’s journey to fulfill her destiny and the monster who gets in her way-by stealing her heart.

Based on the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast, Cruel Beauty is a dazzling love story about our deepest desires and their power to change our destiny.

Since birth, Nyx has been betrothed to the evil ruler of her kingdom-all because of a foolish bargain struck by her father. And since birth, she has been in training to kill him.

With no choice but to fulfill her duty, Nyx resents her family for never trying to save her and hates herself for wanting to escape her fate. Still, on her seventeenth birthday, Nyx abandons everything she’s ever known to marry the all-powerful, immortal Ignifex. Her plan? Seduce him, destroy his enchanted castle, and break the nine-hundred-year-old curse he put on her people.

But Ignifex is not at all what Nyx expected. The strangely charming lord beguiles her, and his castle—a shifting maze of magical rooms—enthralls her.

As Nyx searches for a way to free her homeland by uncovering Ignifex’s secrets, she finds herself unwillingly drawn to him. Even if she could bring herself to love her sworn enemy, how can she refuse her duty to kill him? With time running out, Nyx must decide what is more important: the future of her kingdom, or the man she was never supposed to love.

I enjoyed reading the book. It was very entertaining and I loved Ignifex.

Ignifex is so perfect and I really loved reading about him. He and Nyx together were so.. UGH, I can’t describe it.

IGNIFEX GAVE NYX HIS RING!!!! How could she betray him like that! I don’t understand why she would do that. Honestly, go back to hating your sister. Ignifex loves you. Get a grip. I rolled my eyes so many times during the book.

I hated Astraia. She was so annoying at the beginning, but after Nyx left she just turned into so much more than annoying. I wanted to kill her. Literally. I liked her better when she was harmless and pathetic.

I was so happy when Nyx put her father and aunt in their place. I could imagine their shocked faces, and I laughed so hard. And HOW THE HELL could Nyx just agree to Astraia’s plan??? How? Didn’t she love Ignifex?

Honestly, this book annoyed me a little, but overall I liked it.

Review | Passenger by Alexandra Bracken

Title: Passenger

Author: Alexandra Bracken

Publishing Date: January 5th 2016

Publisher: Disney-Hyperion

Length: 486 pages, hardcover

Passage, n.
i. A brief section of music composed of a series of notes and flourishes.
ii. A journey by water; a voyage.
iii. The transition from one place to another, across space and time.

In one devastating night, violin prodigy Etta Spencer loses everything she knows and loves. Thrust into an unfamiliar world by a stranger with a dangerous agenda, Etta is certain of only one thing: she has traveled not just miles but years from home. And she’s inherited a legacy she knows nothing about from a family whose existence she’s never heard of. Until now.

Nicholas Carter is content with his life at sea, free from the Ironwoods—a powerful family in the colonies—and the servitude he’s known at their hands. But with the arrival of an unusual passenger on his ship comes the insistent pull of the past that he can’t escape and the family that won’t let him go so easily. Now the Ironwoods are searching for a stolen object of untold value, one they believe only Etta, Nicholas’ passenger, can find. In order to protect her, he must ensure she brings it back to them—whether she wants to or not.

Together, Etta and Nicholas embark on a perilous journey across centuries and continents, piecing together clues left behind by the traveler who will do anything to keep the object out of the Ironwoods’ grasp. But as they get closer to the truth of their search, and the deadly game the Ironwoods are playing, treacherous forces threaten to separate Etta not only from Nicholas but from her path home… forever.

I’m not going to lie, this was not my favorite book. I found it boring and uninteresting. The romance didn’t seem spicy enough for me. There was no passion between Etta and Nicholas. I know a lot of people liked the book. However, it just wasn’t that interesting for me.

I did love the idea of traveling through time.

Even though I didn’t really like the book, I still want to read Wayfarer because Passengers intrigued me. I heard that Wayfarer was even better than Passenger and I’m really hoping that’s true so that I won’t get a lasting imprint of my unenjoyment for the first book.

Character talk

Alice was one of the reasons that I kept reading this book. I loved her sweet and caring nature. When I thought she died at the beginning of the book, I was really sad. She had supported Etta throughout.

I liked Etta’s character. She was a bit of a drama queen, especially at the start of the book. But after reading the scene with the dinner and the rude man, I started to like Etta. She was strong and smart. The thing I liked most about her was her passion and her drive. She never stopped to rest and always believed in herself. There was never a moment of doubt that really stopped her from believing.

I have mixed feelings about Rose. She was annoying yet so cool at the same time. At the beginning, I disliked her for her detachment to her daughter. She seemed so cold. At the ending, after Etta disappeared, Rose and Nicholas talked to each other. This was when I started to understand Rose’s motives.

I hated Sophia. She just butted in at the worst moments. I can understand that she was mad because of Julian, but she was taking everything way too far. Her need to impress and overtake Cyrus just made me mad. Cyrus loved someone just like she loved Julian. Yet Cyrus wasn’t planning to kill his opponents or family members for the sake of power since he realized how important loved ones were to him. I am not sympathizing with Cyrus, but we have to understand all the perspectives to understand their motives.

Don’t let this review stop you from reading it because there are tons of people that loved this book.

You’re Not Good Enough Book Tag

I was watching Youtube when I saw the you’re not good enough book tag made by Readlikewildfire and Beccathebookreviewer. Here is the original video.

So how it works is that, you have a bunch of questions and a container of names of book characters. You pick two of those characters and you see which one you would pick for the question.

Two people per question.

Let`s do this.

1. You have one more spot on your Spelling B team, who would you pick?

Rhysand or Arsinoe.

I would pick Rhys. He is definitely smarter, and way more good looking.

2. Both characters want to kill you, which one would you kill first so you have a better chance of surviving?

Thorne or Elide.

I would kill Elide because she can be so badass while Thorne just sits there, eating pie and stuff…

3. You`re on the bachelor/bachelorette and you`re down to these two characters, who would you give your rose to?

Josh or Vika.

Josh. In Isla and the Happily Ever After he’s shown so cool and mysterious and artsy. Josh.

4. You`ve been chosen for The Hunger Games, which character would volunteer in your place?

Cinder (Bryan Oliver) or Levana

I don’t think Levana would even care about me. She would probably be in love with President Snow or something.

5. You`re stranded on an island. Which character would you sacrifice to engage in cannibalism?

Rowan Whitethorn or Nemesis

They are both amazing, scary characters. I bet they would team together and eat me.

6. You`re the next DC/Marvel superhero, who is your sidekick?

Feyre Archeron or America.

This isn’t even a competition. Feyre.

7. You`re a manager of an Avocado admiring company, who would you fire for lack of communication skills?

Leo Borlock or Aelin.

Aelin is supposed to be a queen and Leo is just so quiet and … So Leo. Fired.

8. You`ve just finished a book in which you`re favorite character dies, which character is more likely to comfort you?

Iko or Adelina.

Adelina wouldn’t really care about me. I would have to go with Iko.

9. Ugh, it`s high school. Who would most likely be part of the popular clique?

Katy from Obsidian or Cinder.

It would most likely be Katy. She is cool, awesome and gorgeous. Cinder seems kind of antisocial..

10. The day has arrived; you`re finally a year older! Who would have the nerve to forget your birthday?

Mirabella or Ellamara.

Ella is too sweet for that. Mira would probably be annoyed about killing her sisters to remember my birthday.

11. You`ve just found an upcoming booktube star! Who would he/she most likely be?

Bitterblue or Daemon Black.

Daemon doesn’t even read, so Bitterblue.

12. Sleepover time! Unfortunately, you can only invite one person. Who would you invite?

Percy Jackson or Scarlet Benoit.

13. Bam! You`re pregnant. Who is the father/mother?

Louisa Clark or Etta.

Both of them are women. If I was a guy then, Etta.

14. You`ve just written a super important text. Who would see it, but not reply?

Xander Spence or Mare.

Mare. She’s busy saving the world.

15. You`ve just woken up and it`s time for breakfast. You`re mom has been replaced by who?

Edward Cullen or Emporor Kai.

Kai. He’s so sweet and Edward is kinda strange.

And there you go!

I had so much fun doing this book tag. Please tell me more so I can do them!

Review | The Crown by Kiera Cass

Title: The Crown

Author: Kiera Cass

Publication Date: May 3rd 2016

Publisher: HarperTeen

Length: 278 pages, hardcover

When Eadlyn became the first princess of Illéa to hold her own Selection, she didn’t think she would fall in love with any of her thirty-five suitors. She spent the first few weeks of the competition counting down the days until she could send them all home. But as events at the palace force Eadlyn even further into the spotlight, she realizes that she might not be content remaining alone.

Eadlyn still isn’t sure she’ll find the fairytale ending her parents did twenty years ago. But sometimes the heart has a way of surprising you…and soon Eadlyn must make a choice that feels more impossible—and more important—than she ever imagined.

If you haven’t read it. Do so NOWWWWW!!!

I’m not sure how to explain this book. This is the 5th book in the Selection series. I would recommend reading those books or at least The Heir by Kiera Cass before reading this book. I was a bit skeptical about this book. I didn’t really like Eadlyn in The Heir because of her snotty character. But, she’s changed so much.

I really enjoyed reading about Eadlyn and her leading the country and her finally taking responsibility. I loved that Lady Brice was her aunt. It’s so beautiful how everything worked out.

Firstly, I am so grateful that America did not die in this book.

Now let’s talk about the boys.

Kile…. He was cute, but I didn’t see him being king. He was just to casual. However, Henri? He was cute. After their kiss in the kitchen, I kind of shipped them, but we all knew that it wasn’t going to last.

Ian and Hale are perfect for each other. I bet you, if Eadlyn had known about them being gay before her development from annoyingness, then she would have probably kicked them out of the selection. They are really cute together and I loved that Eadlyn supported them when they needed it.

To be honest, I wasn’t surprised that she chose Eikko. I shipped them from the beginning and their babies would be so cute. What surprised me was that Henri was the one that brought them together. He was in love with Eadlyn, yet he wanted the ones he loved most to be happy. Henri was definitely my most favorite character in this book.

Overall, I would give The Crown a solid 4.

Beauty and the Beast Book Tag

So was checking my favorite book blogs when I saw this tag from dulivre  . I thought why not? It seemed really fun. So here it is. The Beauty and the Beast book tag.

Draco Malfoy. It honestly took me such a long time to try and think of a villain.

Even thought they’re not together, I ship them so much. Morrigan and Azriel from A Court of Mist and Fury

Lazlo Strange from Strange the Dreamer.

uhhh. I’ll have to go with Saint Anything. Layla’s food combinations were just so detailed.

Bryan Oliver and Ellamara from Cinder & Ella

Dorian Havilliard from Throne of Glass

A Court of Mist and Fury. It’s my favorite book. Ever.

Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum

The fault in our stars. Every time I read this, I cry when he dies. You all know who he is.

And that is the end!

Review | Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Title: Obsidian

Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout

Publication Date: May 8th 2012

Publisher: Entangled Teen

Length: 299 pages. paperback

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring… until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something… unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.

I loved this book. The ideas were great everything flowed together really well. I think the reason why I put off reading this for such a long time was because of the alien thing going on. But I’m glad I finally picked it up.

I loved Daemon. He was so protective and caring, for Katy. It was so cute to read about. I hate that he came with Ash though.

If this book was a contemporary, I’d probably hate it. I’ve read too many cliches in my life and I think I need a break.

I don’t really know what else to say about the book, so here’s a list of why you should read obsidian

  1. It’s amazing
  2. It’s addictive
  3. Daemon is really hot
  4. There is so much chemistry!!!
  5. So entertaining.

So go. and read it. now.
